Hello Darnie,
I attended your workshop for Windows 8 Apps Development in New Horizons yesterday.
You told me that Office 365 came free with Windows 8 professional but I can’t seem to find it.
May I know how to go about activating it? I tried googling for it but no avail.
Please advise.
Keith Ong
Hi Keith Ong
Thanks for attending the workshop. It was great to have you all in the workshop..
You can check this URL http://windows.microsoft.com/en-SG/windows/compare ,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_8_editions.
actually Office 2013(Home Student version)comes pre installed with Windows 8 RT ,windows 8 RT can run only metro style apps though it has classic desktop it cannot run all the legacy desktop apps whereas surface with Windows 8 Pro can run both Metro style and full desktop apps ,so that is why I prefer Windows 8 Pro in surface .

But still you can check the system vendors because I remember there were very few vendors with laptops- Windows 8 Pro installed and they also gave Office 2013 free but most of it was just Windows 8 version and office 2013 did not come as free offer.

Hi Darnie,
I also attended your class.
Please could you list the differences between Windows Embedded 8 and the normal Windows 8.
I’m more interested for external projects development for my customers. If I have 100 client PCs, can you highlight the cost saving areas on using Windows 8 Embedded as compared to normal Windows 8 platform.
Thank you.
BanChoon
Hi BanChoon,
Great to hear from you.
Ok , Windows Embedded 8 basically runs on Edge devices which are Intelligent systems.
Eg : Maybe a Health Care department may want to monitor all the department activities using one central data ,so they will develop a app running on a windows embedded device. So Most of these software’s are dedicated to one particular organization.
So how you can develop software for windows Embedded :
Make use of Visual Studio ,which enables you to create cloud and Enterprise applications, because most of this applications are distributed and have access to the cloud
alright having said that now your Windows 8 is the OS that runs on your desktop PC’s or laptops which can run both metrostyle and desktop apps ,so if you want to create apps for Windows Store(Metrostyle apps),then again use Visual Studio.
If your interested in developing an intelligent system :
Make use of the VS IDE
but before that you may have to know exactly the device you are going to develop for ..
Not too sure about the cost factor.
